This character series doesn’t begin with a human figure or biblical hero. It begins with the one who authored every story — God.

Among the Triune Godhead, God the Father is the initiator and planner of all things. To understand the Bible rightly, and to walk a life of faith faithfully, we must begin by asking: Who is God the Father?

1. Creator God

The Bible begins with a simple yet powerful declaration: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

God the Father is the origin of everything. He brought order out of chaos and created humanity in His own image. He is not just a Creator but a God who breathes life and begins a relationship with His creation.

2. Covenant-Keeping God, the Planner of Redemption

To restore fallen humanity, God chose to work through covenants. He promised Abraham righteousness through faith, set apart Israel through the Law given to Moses, and assured David of an everlasting throne.

Each covenant was part of God's redemptive plan. From the beginning, He was working to redeem His people, and that plan was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

3. God of Justice and Love

To truly understand God the Father, we must hold two truths in tension: His perfect justice and His unfailing love.

God is holy and righteous. He does not overlook sin. “For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice.” (Psalm 11:7)

At the same time, He is a compassionate and loving Father. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8)

These two attributes are not in conflict — they meet at the cross. God’s justice was satisfied through the death of Jesus, and His love was poured out through the sacrifice of His Son.

When we grasp both His justice and His love, we gain a deeper understanding of the gospel. He is not a distant judge to be feared, but a loving Father who redeems and transforms sinners.

4. God Who Walked with Israel

God did not merely give commands from afar. He walked with His people.

He called Abraham, wrestled with Jacob, and delivered Israel through Moses. In the wilderness, He guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, and dwelled among them in the tabernacle.

Though they rebelled again and again, God remained faithful and never left them. Though we cannot summarize the entire Old Testament here, one thing is clear: God desired to be with His people — and He was.

5. The Father Who Sent the Son

Out of love, the Father sent His only Son into the world. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” (John 3:16)

Jesus did not come by accident. His coming was the fulfillment of the Father’s long-prepared plan. Jesus obeyed the Father’s will fully — even unto death on a cross.

6. Who Is God the Father to Me Today?

The same God who created the world, walked with Israel, and sent His Son, is alive today and working in my life.

He has a clear and purposeful plan for me — not just for my comfort, but to fulfill His good and perfect will in and through me.

Even when I don’t understand what’s happening, I trust that He rules over every area of my life and leads me with love and sovereignty.

He is my Father — the one who made me, calls me, and walks with me to the very end.
