✨ Bible Character Series #3: The Triune God – God the Spirit

🧩 Key Descriptions of the Holy Spirit

  • 🕊️ The One Who Testifies to Jesus
  • 🤝 The Helper and Spirit of Truth
  • 🏠 God Who Dwells in Us
  • 🌱 The Builder and Sustainer of the Church
  • 🍇 The One Who Bears Fruit in Believers
  • 🚶‍♂️ God Who Walks With Us Today

The third person of the Triune God, the Holy Spirit, is often the most misunderstood. Some think of Him as a feeling or power, but the Bible clearly reveals Him as a divine Person—fully God, with will, mind, and voice.

God the Father planned salvation. God the Son fulfilled it. Now, God the Spirit applies it personally and powerfully in our lives today.

🌍 1. The Spirit Foreshadowed in the Old Testament

The Holy Spirit didn’t suddenly appear in the New Testament. He was there at the very beginning of creation.

“The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Genesis 1:2)

The Spirit also empowered prophets, judges, and kings. And through the prophet Joel, God promised to pour out His Spirit on all people.

“I will pour out my Spirit on all people...” (Joel 2:28)

🤝 2. Jesus' Promise – The Coming of the Helper

Jesus promised that when He returned to the Father, He would send the Holy Spirit to be with His followers.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

The Spirit would not just be among us—but in us, guiding and reminding us of all that Jesus taught.

🔥 3. Pentecost – The Birth of the Church

In Acts 2, the Spirit descended at Pentecost and ignited the birth of the early church. He broke down language and cultural barriers, and empowered bold witness for the gospel.

The church began not through human strength but through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

🕊️ 4. The Spirit Testifies to Jesus

Of all His works, the Spirit’s most important role is this: to glorify and point us to Jesus Christ.

“He will glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:14)

The Spirit never seeks attention for Himself. Instead, He helps us know Jesus more deeply, love Him more fully, and follow Him more faithfully.

True spiritual fullness is not about emotional highs, but about loving and reflecting Christ more and more.

🏠 5. The Spirit Who Lives in Us Today

The Spirit is not just a past event — He is God with us, now.

  • Confirms our identity: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:16)
  • Helps us pray: (Romans 8:26)
  • Convicts us of sin: (John 16:8)
  • Bears fruit in us: (Galatians 5:22–23)

He teaches, comforts, leads, and empowers — and never leaves us alone.

🚶‍♀️ 6. Walking With the Spirit

The Holy Spirit is not a distant power but a present Person. He is the God who walks with us and forms Christ in us.

To be filled with the Spirit is not optional — it’s essential for living the Christian life. It is the path of joy, obedience, and mission.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I know the Holy Spirit personally?
  • Do I listen to His voice and follow His leading?
  • Am I becoming more like Jesus through His work in me?

📖 Coming Up Next
